The Imperial War Museum in Duxford has and impressive 7 hangars full of hundreds of aircraft, lovingly preserved and attended often by the veterans who flew them. This museum includes hangars of aircraft preserved or rebuilt from the First and Second World Wars, which brings home the importance of the Royal Airforce’s role in the wars, in particular during The Battle of Britain. There is also a fantastic hangar called The American Aviation Museum. This hangar includes the iconic B-17 bomber, the record breaking Lockheed Blackbird and even one of the WWII fighter planes flown by former President George H. W. Bush when he was a young man. We attended this museum on Remembrance Sunday, a somber day of mourning for fallen service members. Many present were veterans themselves. It was an honor to spend a day marveling (drooling) at these beautiful machines!
